12-Fiber MTP Connector
MTP Connector

A standard MTP connector is fitted with a 12 strand ribbon of fiber the sits in the middle of the connector housing (see right). But, you can house even more than that! Bump up 12 fibers to 72 fiber with 5 extra 12-strand ribbons of fiber. Think of how much space you could save with that kind of through-put through such a small pipeline.

The connector body also features a push-pull mechanism that replaces the standard clip used by most fiber connectors. It is much easier to plug in as well as remove. Also, like the MTRJ, MTP connectors can be pinned or unpinned to change gender style. Most common is unpinned (female) which will plug into most cassettes. Remember, however, that if you're using an adapter panel you need to have both a male and female MTP connection so that they can couple.

Another type of MTP connector is the Secure MTP version. Currently we carry 4 different "keys" of Secure MTP from USCONEC. K1, K2, K3, and K4. They have different colors that need to match up with the coupler in order to work. Those are described further in the secure MTP section.

Here are some features of the MTP connector:

  • The connector housing is removable
  • Increased ferrule float for improved mechanical performance
  • High precision metal pin clamps
  • An oval spring allows for more ribbon clearance between the ribbon(s) and the spring
  • High precision MT ferrule molding
  • The MTP is offered in three versions for a variety of applications:
    • Jacketed cable
    • Bare ribbon fiber
    • Short version (reduces "footprint" by 45%) for use in space limited (PCB) applications
